Australia clinched a thrilling three-wicket win against India in the first T20I at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday night.
The game went down the wire with the visitors requiring 14 runs off the final over. Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson showed great composure and helped the Aussies take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series by winning the low-scoring encounter.
It is also India’s first T20I loss at home in eight matches.
Jasprit Bumrah’s penultimate over with just two runs and two wickets turned the game on its head and the Men in Blue looked to be headed towards an unlikely win. But Umesh Yadav’s expensive final over undid all that hard work to hand Aussies the win. Where Bumrah went for two runs, Umesh conceded two boundaries in the over to tip things in Australia’s favour.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the match:
Good effort by India to come so close to defending 126. Hopefully , they would have learnt from this experience and will be on the other side of the result ,next time in such a situation . Congratulations to Aus for holding their nerve and winning in the end. #IndvAus

That 19th over from Bumrah was out of this world. Tells you why he is the best. 14 was more than imagined in the bank for the last over but wasn't to be for Umesh Yadav. Shows too why 8/9 need to have some batting skills

In a losing cause in the 1st Paytm #INDvAUS T20I, one love story stood out – death overs and Jasprit Bumrah! ❤

Easy to target Umesh tonight. Please remember that the last white ball game he played was the tied game vs WI last year. He’s played only a handful of Tests (was MOTM in one of them) in between. Bowlers didn’t lose India this game….batsmen did. #IndvAus
